I serve as the Program Coordinator for Hope Forward, an innovative vision of Hope College that builds on the principles of generosity and gratitude through a pay-it-forward approach. This initiative aspires to provide fully-funded tuition for every Hope College student.

Currently, four cohorts—120 students in total—are benefiting from this opportunity. In return, they commit to annual giving post-graduation, ensuring the vision flourishes for future generations. They also actively participate in a four-year co-curricular program focused on virtue development, centered on three pillars: community, access, and generosity. Selection for Hope Forward is not based on academic merit or financial need but on the response to a profound question: "How will you bring hope to areas of hopelessness?"

As the holiday season approaches, I reflect on the poinsettia—a symbol often associated with the Star of Bethlehem. Its shape points to a guiding light that led to Jesus and His grace, offering an unexpected path forward for the world. In our own lives, I believe we encounter modern "Stars of Bethlehem," beacons that lead us to the One whose grace continually unveils new, unanticipated paths. The current students’ willingness to participate in this visionary initiative not only sustains Hope College but also has the potential to reshape the future of higher education funding. Their dedication exemplifies the transformative power of generosity and the hope it inspires.

Each work is titled after a moment during which a student exhibited a spirit of generosity.
